The purpose of art is to make us feel things. We live completely saturated in images, video and sound. So much so we become kind of numb to it all. For example, the art of animation is amazing. Crafting fictional images which move is otherworldly and powerful.
But after The Minions, Hotel Transylvania, The Peanuts Movie, Frozen, Big Hero 6, King Fu Panda, The Lego Movie, whatever Pixar is putting out, the entire genre of anime, and any number of breakfast cereal commercials - we stop seeing the beauty of this art form.
Please watch this 3-minute video by Emma Vakarelova. It breaks through all of that clutter. It is magical, stirring, deeply beautiful, and unlike anything I have seen before.
It is based on a poem by French surrealist poet Robert Desnos, "I have dreamed of you so much that you are no longer real."
