George Maloney a clinical professor at Tufts School of Dental Medicine. He is also a trained acupuncturist and graduate of New England School of Acupuncture! He is doing wonderful work at Tufts Craniofacial Pain Center. He uses acupuncture when his clients experience muscular pain.
“Opioid pain relievers can be effective for a short-term treatment of a day or two,” he says. By contrast, acupuncture can provide lasting relief from the pain."
I love this description of his Mr. Maloney's thought process,
"Acupuncture works, he says, because chronic pain puts the face and jaw muscles into an altered state. Acupuncture can gradually get the muscles to relax."
There is a great overview of his work over at Tufts.edu. It is worth reading about this truly breakthrough work!
