Cochrane Reviews are highly respected systematic reviews of medical data. These medical reviews are extensive summaries of previous research searching for solid scientific conclusions. The stated goals of a Cochrane Review are:
A systematic review attempts to identify, appraise and synthesize all the empirical evidence that meets pre-specified eligibility criteria to answer a given research question.
Last month, a Cochrane Review was updated and published about acupuncture and stress headaches. This review looked at twelve different medical trials which included 2349 patients.
The conclusion was wonderful!
"The available results suggest that acupuncture is effective for treating frequent episodic or chronic tension-type headaches..."
The conclusion goes on to suggest the need for more research and studies. I agree! The more evidence about what acupuncture can (and cannot) do the better.
